The original five (5) Year Certification is renewed by completing six (6)
semester credits, or two (2) months of appropriate occupational experience,
or other professional activities identified in a district professional growth
plan. This certification must be renewed every five (5) years in order to
be current.
Each technical college has a plan of activities for professional growth. Individuals may use the activities to meet their 5 Year renewal requirements. The plan also identifies parameters for use of each type of activity. The needs of the individual, changes in technology, and the needs of the technical college may influence what activity might be utilized for renewal of 5-Year certification.
The activity should help the instructor grow and become more effective in the classroom. Not all technical college plans allow the same activities, nor are all activities recognized to the same extent by all technical colleges. Technical colleges may provide different compensation to individual for engaging in a renewal activity. Individuals wanting recognition of some activity for renewal of their certification should be aware that technical college plans generally require prior approval before the activity is completed. The individual must have some rationale as to why the activity should be accepted for renewal.
