*Individuals must also hold Instructor status in compliance with applicable sections of administrative rule and confirmed through the joint approval process of the WTCSB EMS Discipline and the EMS Section of the Division of Health. A signed copy of the current form must be on file at the district.

Some persons may function in a continuous "on-call" status during non-duty periods where they are commonly enlisted for mutual aid or back-up crew membership. This on-call status, at either the volunteer or professional level, will be considered occupational experience. The combined total of actual work and on-call status may not exceed 60 hours per week nor a total of 3,000 hours of per year for purposes of certification.

IV. REQUIREMENTS FROM OTHER GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES, ASSOCIATIONS, OR OTHER SIGNIFICANT GROUPS.

EMT - PARAMEDIC

ORIGINAL APPROVAL

1. Current certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic.

OR

2. Current license by the state of Wisconsin as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic, Physician's Assistant, Registered Nurse, or Physician.

Individuals must also fulfill all listed below:

A. Current recognition as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor by the American Heart Association.

B. Current recognition as a Basic Life Support Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Instructor by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. (NOTE: Recognition by the American Heart Association is preferred. Recognition as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor is not an accepted substitute for BLS Instructor status.)

C. Verification of current status as an EMT - Basic Instructor/Coordinator or current Wisconsin license as a(n) EMT - Paramedic, Registered Nurse, Physician's Assistant, or Physician with a minimum of 150 hours of prior experience in the delivery of Emergency Medical Services instruction at the EMT - Basic level or above as acceptable to the physician medical director of the training program.

D. Verification of a minimum of two years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic, or licensed Emergency Health Care Professional in a related health care field.

E. Verification of active affiliation with, and employment by, a state of Wisconsin approved Emergency Medical Technician Training Center.

F. Designation by the Physician Medical Director of the Training Center through which the course/program will be taught.

MAINTENANCE OF APPROVAL

Approval as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Instructor/Coordinator, once granted, shall be valid for a period of time not to exceed two calendar years. In order for approval to remain valid, the EMT - Paramedic Instructor/Coordinator must maintain continuous certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic or continuous license as a state of Wisconsin Paramedic and continuous recognition as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor with the American Heart Association throughout the approval period.

Failure to maintain continuous certification, recognition, and/or license, as identified above, shall result in the individual being considered uncertified as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Instructor/Coordinator during that period of time in which continuous certification/recognition/license is not maintained.

PROVISIONAL APPROVAL

Provisional approval of applicants not meeting all requirements for full approval may be granted by joint agreement of the WTCSB - EMS Consultant and the ALS Training Director of the Division of Health. Such approval, once granted, shall remain valid for a period of no more than one calendar year, during which the applicant must successfully complete all requirements as set forth for full approval.

Provisional approval may be granted only upon presentation of satisfactory documentation of need. Such document shall be provided by the employing Training Center.

Provisional approval may be granted only once to any one applicant. Provisional approval, once granted, may not be extended, renewed or reissued for any reason.

RENEWAL OF APPROVAL

Approval, once granted, shall be valid for a period not to exceed two years from date of issue and will terminate July 1 of the second year. Requests for renewal shall be made to the WTCSB EMS Consultant on forms provided by the WTCSB. Renewal shall be subject to joint review by the WTCS EMS Consultant and the ALS Training Director of the Division of Health based on the applicants ability to provide:

Verification of continued affiliation and employment with a state of Wisconsin approved Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic Training Center;

Verification of current certification by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians at the EMT - Paramedic level or license as an EMT - Paramedic by the state of Wisconsin, and;
