APPROPRIATE CREDITS FOR CERTIFICATION

INSTRUCTIONAL AREA (802) FOREIGN LANGUAGE

In order to become certified at the provisional level to teach any course numbered within instructional area (802) Foreign Language, the individual must:

• Have at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, and

• Have at least a minor or twenty semester credits drawn from the language being taught.
  

Individuals satisfying the requirement necessary for a five-year certificate must:

• Have at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, and

• Have at least a major or thirty semester credits drawn from the language being taught.

Courses from other departments will be considered only if accompanied by a written statement from the recognized Foreign Language department chair of an accredited university that the course or a portion of the course is equivalent to a course counting towards a minor or major in the respective foreign language.
