APPROPRIATE CREDITS FOR CERTIFICATION

INSTRUCTIONAL AREA (804) MATHEMATICS

In order to become certified at the provisional level to teach any course numbered within instructional area (804) Mathematics, the individual must:

• Have at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, and

• Have at least a minor or twenty semester credits drawn from the Mathematics department, including eight credits of calculus, or

• Have a major in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science and eight credits of calculus.

Individuals satisfying the requirement necessary for a five-year certificate must:

• Have at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, and

• Have at least a major or thirty semester credits drawn from the Mathematics department, including eight credits of calculus, or

• Have a major in Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science, including eight credits of calculus, plus ten additional semester credits drawn from the Mathematics department.

Individuals satisfying the requirement necessary for a five-year certificate must have a major or thirty credits drawn from the Mathematics department. Courses from other departments will be considered only if accompanied by a written statement from the mathematics department chair of an accredited university that the course or a portion of the course is equivalent to a course counting towards a minor or major in Mathematics.

The following are examples of university course titles which might be recognized as supporting certification, if they come from the mathematics department:
