APPROPRIATE CREDITS FOR CERTIFICATION
INSTRUCTIONAL AREA (810) SPEECH

In order to become certified at the provisional level to teach
any course numbered within instructional area (810) Speech, the
individual must:
- Have at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited
institution, and
- Have at least a minor or twenty semester credits Speech, Oral Communications, Drama, Language Arts or Theater, and
- If teaching Speech courses, have at least twelve semester credits in Speech or Oral Communications.
- If teaching Drama/Theater courses, have at least twelve semester credits in Drama or Theater.
Individuals satisfying the requirement necessary for a five-year
certificate must:
- Have at least a baccalaureate degree from an accredited
institution, and
- Have at least a major or thirty semester credits Speech, Oral Communications, Drama, Language Arts or Theater, and
- If teaching Speech courses, have at least twelve semester credits in Speech or Oral Communications.
- If teaching Drama/Theater courses, have at least twelve semester credits in Drama or Theater.
Courses from other departments will be considered only if
accompanied by a written statement from the recognized Speech, Oral Communications, Drama, or Theater
department chair of an accredited university that the course or a portion of the
course is equivalent to a course counting towards a minor or major in the
respective department.
The following are examples of university course titles which
might be recognized as supporting certification, if they come from the
appropriate department:
