Certification Guideline 35
SUBJECT
Expiration Dates - Multiple Certifications With Different Dates
GUIDELINE DEFINITION
A Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) district shall request a common
expiration date when an individual holds two or more types of certification.
The expiration date shall be determined first by Provisional certification,
secondly by Five-Year certification, and last by Life certification. Also refer
to Guideline 8 regarding individual requests:
http://systemattic.wtcsystem.edu/Certification/Cert/guide/guide08.htm
EXAMPLE
Horace holds a Part-Time Provisional certificate for instructional area 406 (Blacksmithing),
with an expiration date of 8-31-02. Approval for a course or area outside
of the 406 area would also have an expiration date of 8-31-02.
EXAMPLE
Woody holds a Provisional certificate as an Instructional
Supervisor with an expiration date of 8-31-02. He also holds a Five-Year
certificate for instructional area 001 (Horticulture), with an expiration
date of 8-31-06. Approval for any courses outside the 001 area would have
an expiration date of 8-31-02. If Woody became eligible for a Five-Year certificate
on 8-31-02 he would be granted a Five-Year certificate with an expiration
date of 8-31-07. The expiration date for his other Five-Year certificate would
also be changed to 8-31-07.
EXAMPLE
Sally holds a Life certificate. She also holds approval for course 10-806-123 (Swamp Biology), with an expiration
date of 8-31-02. She will not be required to do anything to renew this Approval
certificate. The district will simply submit a request at the appropriate
time and renew the certificate to 8-31-04.
RATIONALE
It is not uncommon for an individual to hold multiple types of certification. A common expiration
date for all certificates will clarify what is necessary for certification
renewal.
