Computer Information Systems (CIS) - Industry Certification
GUIDELINE DEFINITION
This document is designed to assist in transitioning currently certified instructors to new instructional
areas.
The Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) New and Emerging Certification guideline recognizes
industry certifications as equivalent to a maximum of 2000 hours of work experience.
The WTCS will recognize the time and effort required to earn certain Computer
Information System-related industry certifications. Individuals who hold
certain computer-related certifications may receive equivalent hours for work
experience.
The WTCS has divided CIS industry certifications into two progressive tiers. Up to 2000 hours
from the tiers can be combined and credited to individuals holding proof of
specified industry certifications. This approved list of CIS certifications
will be continuously updated as requests occur.
| Tier One - Foundational

Each of these industry certifications is equivalent to
200 hours. However, only a maximum of 400 hours from Tier One may be
counted toward the new and emerging CIS certification work experience
requirement.

RATIONALE
The certification code establishes the
concept of new and emerging occupations and related occupational experience.
This guideline establishes a methodology for recognizing achievement of legitimate
industry certifications as equivalent to related work experience.
